Shayne Renaud started skating when he was 2-3 years old and has been playing competitive hockey ever since. After finishing his junior AAA career in Lachine for the Lachine Maroons in Montreal, his father signed him up to the lottery selection on the Red Bull Crashed Ice page without him knowing it, where he was chosen to try out. Every try out he managed to finish top 5, and therefore got a spot at the events in Quebec. Having a background in hockey, skateboarding, BMXing, wakeboarding, snowboarding and skiing, Shayne thought ice cross downhill would be perfect for him. However, after his first event he realized that it wasn't the sport everyone thought it was, where skaters just throw themselves down an ice track and hope for the best "It was much harder then it seemed on TV and the sport was filled with extremely talented individuals." After studying for a Bachelors in Engineering at Concordia University, he realized that he was going to have to start training seriously to keep up with the competition, and he began training at Ace Athletik in Chateauguay. He also began roller blading and training at Le Taz Skate Park in Montreal and even made an ice track in his backyard to practice. After improving every season he managed to finish 48th overall in 2014-2015, and 23rd overall in 2015-2016, securing his spot in the top 8 Canadians for the 2016/17 season.
